Music Data Exchange: Publishers and Labels Working Together

On October 24, 2018, the Copyright Society of the South enjoyed an informative presentation and update regarding SoundExchange by its COO, Jonathan Bender. The luncheon event was held at  BMI’s Nashville headquarters for CSoS members and guests.

Jonathan Bender has served as Chief Operating Officer of SoundExchange since 2011.  SoundExchange is the world’s largest sound recording performance rights association, distributing $650 million in royalties to artists and rights owners in 2017.  In his role as COO, he oversees the organization’s business operations.

Jon has 25 years’ experience in the music industry.  His area of expertise is designing and implementing digital workflows for the efficient exchange of assets and data by building and managing the data and management systems needed to support an industry of streaming micro-transactions.

He has held senior operating roles at EMI Music, Universal Music, and Concord Music.  He is a member of the DDEX Board of Directors, among other industry groups.
