Career Opportunity: Head of US Copyright, VP
Overview
Reporting jointly into the President/COO and Head of Global Administration, the newly created role of Head of Copyright (HOC) will oversee copyright administration functions in the US while also supporting global operations. This role will contribute to the overall productivity and efficiency of our main processing hub located in Burbank. In addition, the HOC will be required to establish close working relationships with key operations executives globally to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
The HOC will lead the copyright team in Burbank who are responsible for administrative functions, including but not limited to:
- New deal implementation
- Contract interpretation
- The creation of new US repertoire and catalog maintenance within our proprietary royalty and copyright system
- Catalog integration
- US Copyright Registrations
- Sample Clearance
- Counter claims
- Management of repertoire in various claims management systems such as YouTube
- Successful registrations of repertoire through CWR and manual registrations
- Moral Rights and Synchronization Clearances
- US Release Notifications
- Liaising with Heirs and Estates
The HOC will:
- Provide oversight, guidance, and education for your team
- Work closely with all internal departments including Creative, Business Affairs, Income Tracking, Finance, Royalties and Client Services
- Answer client inquiries, enabling high service levels to our writers, business partners & affiliates
- Partner with cross functional teams and affiliates on enhancements to systems and processes
- Support the implementation of royalty and accounting provisions within our rights management system
- Direct ad-hoc projects and reporting as required
- Support analysis of micro-licensing schemes and DSP offerings
- Be a key contact for the organization for foreign offices, affiliates, PRO’s and MRO’s
- Attend outside functions that are informational and provide visibility for the organization
Desired Skills & Experience
- Expert knowledge of copyright with 10 + years of experience in licensing and music publishing
- Applied knowledge of CWR
- Working knowledge of practices of foreign CMO’s and PRO’s, including BIEM rules
- Expert knowledge of the Music Modernization Act, MLC, and US PRO’s.
- Translatable experience in royalty software such as Counterpoint and Music Maestro
- Analytical, creative, and innovative approach to problem solving
- Experience in team leadership
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Adept process and project management skills, including introducing change in a complex environment
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Decisive and detail oriented
- Willingness to hold and/ or participate in meetings with colleagues in different countries/time zones at early and late hours
- Second language fluency a plus
