On February 26, 2025, the Copyright Society of the South welcomed panelists Hillel Frankel, Charles Alexander, Jeremy Brook, and Sada Garba, who presented information and updates regarding the verification, use and compensation of video, audio and images that includes an individual’s voice, identity, name, image and likeness.  The CLE luncheon event was held for Society members and their guests at the Country Music Association event room in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Society extends its deep appreciation to these industry experts for presenting to the organization regarding the topic of restoring trust in this age of artificial intelligence.

Hillel Frankel is Of Counsel with McGlinchey Stafford PLLC, focusing on intellectual property and transactional music and entertainment matters. Hillel has more than 25 years of experience in representing artists, writers, producers, production companies, record labels, visual artists and filmmakers. He also provides counsel in business affairs and business development for start-up production and music tech companies, recording companies as well as apparel, branding, sponsorship, cannabis and marketing entities.  Frankel recently published an article in the Tennessee Bar Journal November 2024 issue entitled “Where’d You Get that Sound, Original Artists Vs AI”.

Charles Alexander, ViNIL CEO, has had a career journey to this point anything but conventional. Before disrupting the music industry he was decoding the human genome as a bioinformaticist. He then brought that data scientist’s precision to the art of music promotion. Alexander’s  innovative approach paid off spectacularly when he helped independent artist Keeley Valentino achieve over 12 million streams for her song “Nashville” in the early days of Spotify – a feat almost unheard of for an independent artist at the time. Alexander is a frequent speaker at major industry events like South by Southwest and the Americana Music Association Festival and Conference, sharing his expertise at the intersection of music and technology. His particular passion lies in advocating for BIPOC artists, with a special focus on supporting the AAPI music community.

Jeremy Brook is co-founder, COO, and General Counsel of ViNIL. A practicing attorney of 15 years, Brook’s law practice has focused on helping clients in the music, entertainment, and other creative industries navigate their strategic relationships. Outside of his professional endeavors, Jeremy serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Gordon Jewish Community Center and the Secretary of the International Board of Directors for Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity.

Sada Garba,  CTO of ViNIL, is a polymath, software and product developer.  Garba began his career as a game developer before growing into a full-stack developer and software architect.  Sada was most recently the co-founder and CTO of Givful, a social workplace giving platform which won the 2020 Nashville Technology Council’s Start-up of the year award.  Givful was successfully acquired by isolved HCM in 2021.

Board members of the Copyright Society of the South welcome its guest speakers to the February 26 event. (L to R): Stacey Schlitz; John Barker; Aaron Hartley (Chair); Amanda Hruska; Tim Wipperman; Hillel Frankel; Charles Alexander; Sada Garba; Jeremy Brook.
