On Wednesday, March 19, 2014 AIMP and the Copyright Society of the South welcomed Congressman Doug Collins to Nashville. That day began with a tour of the Country music hall of Fame, followed by performances from hit songwriters Josh Kear, Jessi Alexander, and Wynn Varble. After the much anticipated writers round Congressman Doug Collins gave a speech on the Songwriters Equity Act, which would allow a standard Mechanical reproduction rate along with an allowance for a “Rate Court” that would help establish digital performance rates for songwriters and composers. According to Collins,  “‘My constituents expect me to find the ways government is in the way of people producing what they can and take down those barriers. The SEA was an interesting, somewhat unexpected way to do that. Here’s a case in which government weighed in back when player pianos were a main way music was distributed and they haven’t changed with the times. Songwriters have paid the price for that.”
