SoundExchange Update – 3/24/21 Webinar

Members and guests of the Copyright Society of the South enjoyed an informative webinar on March 24, 2021, with guest speaker Colin Rushing, Chief Legal Officer for SoundExchange.

SoundExchange provides royalty solutions for copyright holders in sound recordings and musical compositions. The organization collects and distributes digital performance royalties on behalf of over 245,000 recording artists’ and master rights owners’ accounts. Mr. Rushing currently oversees the organization’s legal, regulatory, and corporate affairs, supervises rate setting proceedings, directs the organization’s enforcement program, and plays a key role in shaping SoundExchange’s strategic development.

Mr. Rushing gave the Society information and updates regarding the organization, including SXWorks, the SoundExchange company formed to serve the music publishing industry. The latest webcasting copyright proceeding was also discussed. CSoS Board President Kent Draughon moderated the event.
